A GENERATION OF PIPE DREAMERS: FANTASY VS. DEDUCTIVE REASONING

If you do not think it you cannot do it. This is the underlying message of Bernie Sanders’ revolution. What is the essential fallacy?  That faith [unquestioning belief] in Pipe Dreams is to believe in fantasies.  Everything depends on deductive reasoning to make the distinction between a Pipe Dream and Plausible Possibility.

Historically there have been many prominent men who thought big: the Kings of Egypt who built pyramids to house their remains in preparation for their trip into the heavens – all we know for certain is that building pyramids cost a lot of lives and they are not to store grain; Roman Emperors who had big thoughts sacrificed slaves and Legions to rule the world, again a trip that cost a lot of lives; Alexander the Great, again another vision to rule the world at a great cost of life. Do not leave out Muhammad.  These men made their vision come true with brutal force to impose their will on their followers and then gin up their followers to spread their idea…or “off with their heads.”  (re: the Queen of Hearts)

Ideologues like Lenin, Chairman Mao and Castro employed infectious vehemence and chilling rhetoric to promote Pipe Dreams to mesmerize naïve, gullible, down trodden, embittered citizens living in countries controlled by despots like the Czars in Russia. And the down trodden eagerly   participated in revolutions ostensibly for the common good, only to find themselves in a new predicament, again without freedom.

What a great revolution Napoleon conducted for the citizens of France.  And Castro, who Sanders admires and has praised:

What unusual revolutionaries the founding fathers of America were, actually more/only  concerned with protecting the public good and not in establishing a new kingdom for themselves.   Further these visionary men fully realized the danger of including religion in politics so based their new Republic on the concept of the separation of the church and state.

Hitler arose on the Pipe Dream of making Germany great again by conquering the world in the aftermath WWI which left Germany in a state of economic devastation amidst the ruins of its national pride.

The story of Alexander lives on, remember – the night before his greatest battle he watched a spider in his tent building a web, six times the spider failed, but on the seventh attempt the spider did it, which assured Alexander that if he was resolute he could accomplish his dream of winning his battle no matter how difficult and no matter how many lives were lost.

Wizards of yore are great examples of the Pipe Dream syndrome. Their role in the Kingdom was to turn lead into gold, and the motivation was free stuff.  But what they thought they could do was a fantasy that was never realized.  Kings still had a lot of free stuff anyway that they took from their people and used it for themselves.

And there are great examples in literature of Pipe Dreamers: Arthur Miller’s Willy Loman in “Death of a Salesman” is one of the finest examples of a man who fantasized success and at each days dawning his Pipe Dream was dashed on the rocks of reality, he did not have what it takes; and then the classic Don Quixote chasing at windmills.

The essential element necessary to accomplish any difficult worthwhile objective is the plausibility of the implementation required to achieve what you think.  Sanders’ revolution will not be accomplished by force, and cannot be accomplished through stirring rhetoric to promote Pipe Dreams because implementation is the key.     So deductive reasoning which considers all the parts of the whole, the kind of deductive reasoning that acknowledges the  empirical context of existing and entrenched conditions  that are crucial to deal with in order to establish the primacy of the vision, are key to restoring fairness to the American Dream.

The controlling vision underlying the American Dream that America was founded for the people and not oligarchs.  The founders vision was to provide a fair playing field in the aftermath of King George.   The GOP blockade of the common good is the past that is prologue, and the present that still exists which will control the outcome unless plans to restore fairness offer Plausible Possibility to IMPLEMENT.

So in 2016 we are at the edge of the survival of our Republic and must choose to live in the reality of deductive reasoning or the illusion and fantasy of Pipe Dreams — and vote for the Democrat if you want to reverse the decades long GOP war against the American Dream.
